Jumas is

Judicial Management by Digital Libriaries Semantics, a European project funded by the ICT programme within the 7th Framework Programme for Research and Development activities of the European Commisson for the period from 2007 to 2013. Managed by the DG INFSO (Directorate General for Information Society), the ICT programme financially supports the R&D projects carried out by pan-european partnership of research centres, companies, Universities, enterprises and non-profit organisations. The project granted by the call 1 for ICT theme in 2007, for the objective "Intelligent content and semantics". So, its 12 Partners [ meet who ] are committed for more than 3.8 M € from 1st February 2008 to 31st January 2011 (if the proposed extention is accepted).

The work in progress

Jumas addresses to the need to supply to the users effective tools for managing multimedia libraries, such as criminal trial proceedings. New models and techniques for extracting and representing the embedded semantics derived from multiple data sources will be developed. JUMAS will automate the transcription process and provide effective information retrieval tools on multimedia libraries through the collection, enrichment and sharing of multimedia documents annotated with embedded semantic. The solution is tailored at managing situations where recordings from multiple cameras and audio sources in assemblies in which people debates and event sequences need to be semantically reconstructed for future consultations.

The prototype of JUMAS will be tested in 2010 in the criminal trials in Italy and Poland. This would mean interworking with legacy systems, so the system can be viewed as able to support business processes and problem-solving in a variety of domains.

The need

is to build an infrastructure able to optimise the information workflow in order to facilitate later analysis. New models and techniques for representing and automatically extracting the embedded semantics derived from multiple data sources will be developed.
The important goal, of the JUMAS-based system, is to collect, enrich and share multimedia documents, annotated with embedded semantic minimising manual transcription activity. Moreover, to manage situations where multiple cameras and audio sources are used to record debate assemblies and event sequences need to be semantically reconstructed for future consultations.
